Fire lights up night sky

A fire engulfed a building in the city of Dunkirk Wednesday night. The city of Dunkirk Fire Department responded to the intersection of Talcott and Ruggles streets at about 9 p.m. to battle the blaze.

According to fire police on scene, the structure was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived on scene. Dunkirk Police also responded to help with traffic control as all streets near the scene were blocked off. Firefighters used several hoses from the ground and from a ladder truck to disperse water on the blaze.

Firefighters remained on scene working as of 11 p.m. Wednesday. Fredonia Fire Department was called in for standby at fire headquarters.

WDOE-AM was reporting the building formerly housed the Community Christmas-Sharing with Children program.

This is the third fire the city has responded to recently. Firefighters responded to Lincoln Avenue in March and to Eagle Street in April for fires.
