Opportunistic Lady T’birds take care of Wolves, 16-2

WESTFIELD – The Chautauqua Lake Lady Thunderbirds (6-4) knocked 14 hits and took advantage of eight errors in a 16-2 win over the Westfield Lady Wolverines (3-7) Monday in CCAA Division 3 high school softball action.

Jade Walsh went 3 for 4 with two runs to lead the hit parade while Hannah Rauh had a 3-for-4 day of her own. Jessie Herrington knocked two hits with three runs and a double and Gina Sena added two hits of her own with a triple and three RBI to support the Chautauqua Lake offensive attack. Ashley Moulton went 2 for 3 with an RBI.

“They came out, they swung the bat nicely,” Westfield coach David Luder said. “They played a nice, solid game both offensively and defensively.”

Lauren Cummings went the distance in the circle as she walked four, struck out nine and surrendered seven hits to earn the win.

Hillary Nelson went 2 for 3 with two RBI to lead the Lady Wolverines in defeat while Rachel Allen had a 2-for-3 day of her own.

Lauren Tofil earned the loss for Westfield after she allowed 12 runs on 12 hits in six innings of work.

Westfield travels to Maple Grove Wednesday while Chautauqua Lake hosts Ripley today.

Forestville 6, Maple Grove 0

FORESTVILLE – Behind Ryanne Dugan’s sixth consecutive shutout, the Forestville Lady Hornets (9-1, 11-1) claimed back-to-back CCAA Division 3 titles with a 6-0 win over the Maple Grove Lady Red Dragons (5-4, 5-4) in high school softball action Monday.

Dugan struck out 14 batters and allowed one hit while she extended her scoreless-inning streak to 41 in the process.

“She’s just mixing up her pitches,” Forestville coach Brianne Hazelton said. “She stayed calm and collected on the mound.order. She’s doing a great job.”

Half of the Lady Hornets’ offensive output came in the second inning. After Emily Markham and Emily Gilman recorded base hits, Emily Dillenburg brought them home with a two-run single. Another run scored after a Cherish Pope pop fly was dropped.

Division 2

Frewsburg 8,

Silver Creek 0

SILVER CREEK – The CCAA Division 2 champion Frewsburg Lady Bears (11-0, 12-3) continued their perfect run through the league with an 8-0 shutout win over the Silver Creek Lady Black Knights (1-10, 2-12).

Sam Mott allowed two hits and three walks in a complete-game effort and struck out 10 in the process.

Allison Harford earned the loss for the Lady Black Knights as she allowed eight runs on six hits, walked four and struck out as many.

Christina Williams recorded a double to lead Silver Creek’s bats while Jenny Pearl knocked a single for the team’s other hit.

The Lady Black Knights wrap up league play Wednesday when they host Randolph.

Cass. Valley 0

SINCLAIRVILLE – Once again, Sara Crandall was in complete control for seven innings as she threw a one-hitter in leading Cattaraugus-Little Valley (6-3, 8-6) to a 5-0 shutout over host Cassadaga Valley (7-4, 9-7) in Division 2 softball.

Crandall struck out 11 while walking one with the only hit coming in the fourth when Kristi Zink tripled for the Lady Cougars.

Division 4

Ripley 14, Clymer 6

RIPLEY – Emilee Steger pitched a complete-game in leading the Ripley Lady Eagles (6-3, 8-3) to a 14-6 victory over Clymer on Monday in CCAA Division 4 high school softball.

Steger struck out seven, walked one and scattered five hits. She helped her own cause at the plate with a two-run homer.

Ryleigh Hawkins led the Lady Eagles’ offense with four hits and two RBIs. Kalisha Swoger added three hits and Shanda Mellors had an RBI hit for the winners.
