Work has begun at the site of the new Route 5/20 bridge over Cattaraugus Creek. According to Hanover Supervisor Todd Johnson, the New York State Department of Transportation has begun clearing trees and moving earth on the Seneca Nation side of the creek in preparation for construction of a new bridge to begin this summer. The new bridge will be partially built alongside the old bridge, allowing for traffic to continue across. Traffic will then be transferred to the new bridge while the old is demolished and the new bridge completed. The town also received correspondence from the DOT designating Route 5/20 a restricted highway from Jackson Street to Route 438 for the purpose of the project.
