Motorcycle accident leads to serious injury

RIPLEY – A motorcyclist was seriously injured Thursday afternoon in Ripley. Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene on Route 76 around noon. Investigation showed David R. Baum, 24, of Ripley was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control around a curve. His 2009 Harley Davidson overturned and struck a guard rail.

Baum was seriously injured and was treated on the scene by Westfield and Ripley EMS personnel. He was flown by helicopter to UPMC Hamot Hospital in Erie, Pa.

Deputies secured a blood test from Baum at the hospital and charges are pending the results. Baum remains hospitalized and was listed in critical condition as of Thursday afternoon.
