Playoffs set to begin
The seedings for the 2013 Section 6 high school softball playoffs were released Thursday.
In Class B-1, the Dunkirk Lady Marauders drew the No. 7 seed and will host No. 10 Medina Saturday in a pre-quarterfinal matchup at 11 a.m. The winner of that game will travel to No. 2 Newfane on Tuesday in the quarterfinal round. Semifinals are set for May 24 and the final will be played May 29 at Sunshine Park in West Seneca.
Meanwhile, the Fredonia Lady Hillbillies are the No. 2 seed in Class B-2 and host No. 7 JFK or No. 10 Wilson in the quarterfinals Tuesday at 4:45 p.m. On Saturday, No. 8 Gowanda hosts No. 9 Southwestern in a pre-quarterfinal with the winner facing No. 1 Akron on Tuesday. Like Class B-1, semifinals are scheduled for May 24 and the final is slated for May 29 at Sunshine Park.
In Class C, a trio of prequarterfinals involving area schools will be played Tuesday as No. 13 Silver Creek travels to No. 4 Portville; No. 12 Salamanca heads to No. 5 Chautauqua Lake and No. 9 Westfield plays No. 8 Allegany-Limestone.
Quarterfinals in Class C are set for May 24 and include the following matchups: No. 1 Frewsburg plays either Allegany-Limestone or Westfield, Portville or Silver Creek plays either Chautauqua Lake or Salamanca and No. 2 Cassadaga Valley plays either No. 7 Maple Grove or No. 10 Barker. Semifinals will be played May 28 and the final is set for June 1 at the Martin Road Complex in Jamestown.
Quarterfinal play in Class D will also start May 24. No. 1 Forestville plays No. 8 West Valley, No. 4 Ripley entertains No. 5 Ellicottville, No. 2 North Collins hosts No. 7 Clymer and No. 3 Brocton plays No. 4 Ripley. Semifinals are scheduled for May 28 and the final will be played June 1 at the Martin Road Complex.
