First Student to hold their second annual “Driving for a Cure” fundraiser

On May 25, the local school bus drivers of First Student will be holding their second annual “Driving for a Cure” breast cancer fundraiser, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the bus terminal, located at 151 Chautauqua Road in Fredonia. Tickets are only $5 to attend, which includes a picnic lunch. There will also be Chinese auctions, face painting and a bake sale.

First Student Fredonia started doing the breast cancer “Driving for a Cure” fundraiser last year when contract manager Ken Schnur received an e-mail from the First Student Lackawanna Terminal asking the Fredonia location to join in their fight to help raise funds for breast cancer awareness by getting the drivers, friends and families to participate in some type of fundraiser. Thus, the family picnic event arose. Last year five First Student terminals participated and raised more than $6,000, with Fredonia’s terminal raising more than $2,300 of that amount.

This year not only is First Student doing the picnic fundraiser but they will also be participating in the Susan G. Komen 5K Run/Walk on June 8 at the Delaware Park Rose Garden.

The drivers at First Student encourage the families of the students they transport daily and all members of the area community to come out and show their support for this great cause.
