Fruit of the Vine Ultreya

On April 11, members met in St. Joseph’s parking lot and left for Blasdell to attend the Cursillo Mass with Bishop Malone. The mass started at 7:30 p.m. All deacons that made Cursillo proceeded into the church with Bishop Malone. The Cursillo musicians supplied the music. The first reading was by a member of one of the Buffalo Ultreya groups. The Gospel was read by Deacon Mike Quinn. The Homily was given by Bishop Malone. He started his Homily by saying that the Eucharist is the heart, the center of the Mass. During Bishop Malone’s homily, he quoted Pope Francis, saying “Being a Christian is not just about following Commandments: it is about letting Christ take possession of our lives and transform them.” He went on to say that this is the definition of a Curstilista. He spoke about going forth and living the Gospel through actions. He ended his homily by thanking the Cursillo community and encouraging everyone to continue living the Gospel. Before Mass ended, Don Appenheimer made announcements. After Mass, everyone went to the school to have refreshments and socialize.

The April 25 meeting opened with prayer and grouping. Business news discussed was the upcoming Reunion Mass that the group is scheduled to host. Where the Mass will be held and suggestions for speakers were discussed, and it was subsequently decided that the Mass will be at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish at 7:30 p.m. on June 14. Father Dennis Riter will be the celebrant.

The next regular Ultreya meeting will be Thursday, May 23 at St. Joseph’s at 7:30 p.m. The Mass will be planned and suggestions will be taken for a witness speaker. Also, the social will be planned that will take place at the school hall after the Mass.

All members are encouraged to attend this meeting and participate in the planning process.
