Catholic Charities within $500,000 of goal

With just about six weeks remaining before the close of the 2013 Appeal in support of Catholic Charities of Buffalo, the annual campaign has raised $10,231,128.55 in cash and pledges, or 95.6 percent of its $10.7 million goal. The most comprehensive human services organization in Western New York now asks the community to help raise the remaining funds – less than $500,000 – needed to meet the final goal by June 30.

“Our results thus far reflect the hard work and ongoing efforts of our Appeal leadership team and 600 volunteers,” said Sister Mary McCarrick, OSF, diocesan director for Catholic Charities. “We are blessed to have so many people who raise money through our parishes and greater community because of their dedication to Catholic Charities’ mission to protect, strengthen and empower individuals from all walks of life. While we celebrate and thank our generous donors who have responded with a gift, we recognize these final dollars will be the most difficult to raise and we once again reach out to the Western New York community for continued support. Every donation is important.”

Stephen Ulrich, 2013 Appeal chair, also expressed his appreciation for those who have contributed and emphasized the importance of achieving the goal.

“With 130,000 people turning to Catholic Charities for help each year, we must reach our goal,” he said. “We have some work to do to reach out one more time to our faithful individual and corporate supporters who have not yet contributed, but we’re hopeful the generosity of Western New Yorkers will once again come through for us. In fact, we are seeking new donors to ‘try us out’ with a donation of any dollar amount securely at our website, ccwny.org, then stay on the website and discover how your donation supports food pantries, mental health counseling, caregiver support, and so much more.”

Ulrich added, “Of the Diocese of Buffalo’s 167 parishes and campus ministries, 60 parishes and campus ministries – more than one-third – have exceeded their total dollars raised during the 2012 Appeal. While this is encouraging and we are grateful, many more parishes will need to surpass last year’s total to help us reach goal.”

In Chautauqua County, four of 14 parishes have exceeded their 2012 total. The 2013 total for the county to date is $389,744.

Donations to the 2013 Appeal will be gratefully received from all members of the community through June 30, the close of the Appeal and the organization’s fiscal year.
