Rosas takes first in 2,000-meter steeplechase at CCAA?meet

OLEAN – Dunkirk’s Rachel Rosas claimed the girls’ 2,000-meter steeplechase crown during the CCAA Pentathlon and Steeplechase Saturday at Olean High School.

The junior won the event in a time of 8:09.40, over 10 seconds ahead of second-place Shaelyn Smith of Salamanca (8:19.50). Gowanda’s Hunter Samuelson finished third while Calan Porlgorzelski of Dunkirk took fourth. Franklinville’s Kesley Brown, Randolph’s Halle Lienhart, Salamanca’s Andie Hill and Randolph’s Kelly Vicent finished fifth through eighth, respectively.

The Lady Marauders’ Janelle Jasinski took third in the pentathlon with 2,194 points, well behind winner McKenna Maycock of Randolph (2,802 points). Cheyenne Staufenberger of Franklinville finished second. Allegany-Limestone’s Brenna Gelen, West Valley’s Rachel Zimmer, Salamanca’s Alex Caputi, Gowanda’s Kelsey Eddy and Allegany-Limestone’s Cassie Cooper took fourth through eighth.

Meanwhile, on the boys side, Gowanda’s Dylan Accordino was the top finisher among local schools in the 3,000 steeplechase as he finished seventh in a time of 11:32.60, more than a minute behind winner John Panus of Olean (10:10.10). Josh Odell of Clymer-Sherman-Panama finished second while Gil Keenan of Cattaraugus-Little Valley finished third. Owen Barber of Allegany-Limestone, Matt Bacher of Franklinville and Skyler Schapp of Randolph finished ahead of Accordino and Olean’s Ethan Kelley finished eighth.

The Panthers’ Lucas Brawdy led local athletes with an eighth-place finish and 2,248 points as Allegany-Limestone’s Trevin Barber (3,082 points) took the pentathlon. Damion Taylor and Sal Seitz of Salamanca, Clymer-Sherman-Panama’s John Luden, Cattaraugus-Little Valley’s Jeremia Solecki, Olean’s Jake Cihak and West Valley’s Collin Proctor finished second through seventh.
