Gowanda track teams get first win of season

GOWANDA – It took until the last meet of the season, but the Gowanda Lady Panthers (1-5) earned their first win of the 2013 campaign via an 80-60 decision over Silver Creek-Forestville Monday in CCAA Division 1 girls track and field action.

Colleen Steward led Gowanda with wins in the 1500-meter run (5:55.3), 800 (2:50.7) and the 3,000 (13:27). She also teamed with Hunter Samuelson, Taylor Kickbush and Sara Grubbs to win the 4×800 relay in a time of 11:30.5.

“(Silver Creek-Forestville has) Hannah Seiders, who’s an excellent athlete,” Gowanda coach Pete Palmer said. “We have Colleen Steward to offset her. Then it becomes what everyone else does.”

The Lady Panthers swept the other two relays on the afternoon as well. Grubbs, Samuelson and Kickbush joined Hannah Brawdy to take the 4×400 (4:25.5) while Brawdy, Sara Torres, Emma Weyand and Kelsey Eddy won the 4×100 (:56.3).
