Soil & Water directors meeting Thursday

Chautauqua County Soil and Water Conservation District director’s regular meeting is Thursday at 8:30 a.m. at the Soil and Water Conservation Office, 3542 Turner Road, Jamestown.

Parks Commission meets Thursday

The Chautauqua County Parks Commission will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Chautauqua County Airport, Jamestown. The public is welcome to attend.

Chautauqua Music Camps accepting applicants

The Chautauqua Music Camps is now accepting applications for 2013. The camp takes place Aug. 12-17 at Chautauqua Institu-tion. There is a middle school band, advanced middle school/high school orchestra, and high school jazz ensemble.

SCCS kindergarten registration May 28-29

Will your child be 5 years old by Dec, 1, 2013? Do you live within the Silver Creek School District?

Kindergarten registration will be held on May 28 and May 29 for children who are eligible to enter in Sept-ember 2013.

Contact the Elementary office, 934-2603 ext. 1100, to schedule a screening appointment for your child.

Students who are currently enrolled in this school year’s Universal Pre-K Program do not need to register.

No dogs allowed on city beaches

The city of Dunkirk Public Works and Police departments remind beachgoers that dogs are not allowed on city beaches. Any person who violates this regulation by bringing a dog onto a city beach can be prosecuted.

VFW?Post 1017 to hold special meeting Sunday

The John T. Murray VFW Post 1017 in Dunkirk will hold a special meeting for installation of officers Sunday at 12:30 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend this important meeting. Following the meeting, there will be a brief memorial service for Quartermaster Randall Burmeister who is recently deceased. All are welcome to attend.

First Student will host breast cancer

treatment fundraiser Saturday afternoon

From 1 to 5 p.m. Satur-day, First Student will host its second annual Driving for a Cure breast cancer treatment fundraiser at 151 Chautauqua Road in Fre-donia.

This event includes a silent auction, face painting, a bake sale, and a picnic lunch for $5 per plate.

Gas prices rise

Average retail gasoline prices in New York have risen 1.2 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.71/g Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 6,118 gas outlets in New York. This compares with the national average that has increased 8.9 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.67/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Including the change in gas prices in New York during the past week, prices Sunday were 20.6 cents per gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 0.8 cents per gallon lower than a month ago.

The national average has increased 16.6 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 3.0 cents per gallon lower than this day one year ago.

Evans to participate in NY Click It

or Ticket It program

The Evans Police De-partment is participating in the 2013 Buckle Up New York-Click It or Ticket It program. The statewide program’s enforcement mobilization targeting safety belt use runs through June 2.

Evans police will have special patrols checking for seat belt compliance. Patrols will be out day and night to enforce the Click It or Ticket mobilization.
