Hamburg puts abrupt end to Lake Shore’s fantastic season

HAMBURG – The No. 6 Lake Shore Eagles watched their season come to an end Wednesday at the hands of No. 3 Hamburg, 7-3, in Section 6 Class A quarterfinal baseball action.

Hamburg scored six runs in the sixth inning to steal the victory.

“We had our chances throughout the game,” Lake Shore coach Bob Kowal said. “We put runners in scoring position and couldn’t score. It’s just a sad way to go out.”

Dane Cala led the Lake Shore offense with three hits while Matt Kardach added two hits. Tyler Freeman had a two-run single in defeat.

“It’s sad to see these (seniors) go,” Kowal concluded. “They are just a real nice group of seniors. Wish we would have been able to climb the mountain. These are the first kids in school history to win two Division titles. I have nothing bad to say about them. They are just really nice kids.”
