Memorial day: Making a call for participation

Memorial Day services will take place in a number of area communities on Monday. While it is a day of relaxation for many, it also is a day to remember.

Because of this, Dunkirk event organizers are looking for a few good men and women who are veterans to participate in the ceremonies and the parade.

“For all veterans who are able to walk, Mr. Butch Piglowski, commander American Legion Post 62, has recommended one combined unit/honor guard, to be referred as ‘All Veterans Honor Guard’ to lead our 1st Division,” wrote Jack Sievert, Dunkirk Joint Veterans Council commander, in the People’s column on Wednesday. “All veterans unable to walk and wishing to participate, transportation will be provided by CARTS during the parade and returning them to Memorial Park at the completion of the parade.”

Veterans interested in taking part can call Leonard Catalano at 366-3941.

Members of the public are also expected to take part. Attendance at this – or other community services – is appreciated.
