Twenty years ago – 1993

Cliffstar Corporation officials in Dunkirk have announced that it has received Wal-Mart’s prestigious “Quality Performance Award” for 1992. This award recognizes Cliffstar for their high standards and performance in areas such as leadtime reduction, forecasting order fill rates, transportation, communication and order accuracy. The award was accepted on behalf of all Cliffstar employees for their commitment to customer service. Since September 1991, Cliffstar has developed a successful partnership with Wal-Mart.

Thirty years ago – 1983

Student of the Week is Bruce Szymanski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Szymanski of Lamberton. A senior at Brocton Central School, he has been active on the varsity football, baseball and basketball teams. Bruce has held major roles in Drama Club productions and school musicals, is a member of the National Honor Society, a NYS Musical Association soloist and a Boys State participant. He will attend Buffalo State University to major in aerospace engineering.

Forty years ago – 1973

Royalty crowned at the Silver Creek Central School junior and senior class prom, held at the Holiday Inn, included Bill Bolling, king; and Janet Sutehall, queen.

Fifty years ago – 1963

A beaver, described by one small boy who was fishing as a “great brown carp, the biggest carp I ever saw,” is the latest resident of Dunkirk Harbor, living in the vicinity of the Central Avenue pier.
