Still alive

The Section 6 baseball, softball and lacrosse tournaments are drawing to a close, but there are still several local teams in the mix for a title.

Silver Creek’s boys’ lacrosse team, the No. 1 seed, will take on No. 2 Akron at All-High Stadium, in Buffalo, today at 5:30 p.m. The Black Knights will be looking for their fifth straight Sectional title. They beat the Tigers last year, 29-15, behind 10 goals from Marvin Curry.

No. 1 Forestville will host No. 4 Ripley in a Class D softball semifinal this afternoon while No. 6 Pine Valley will travel to North Collins to take on the No. 2 Lady Eagles. Both games are scheduled to begin at 4:45 p.m.

Also today, the No. 2 Cassadaga Valley Lady Cougars will host No. 3 Cattaraugus-Little Valley and No. 5 Chautauqua Lake will travel to take on No. 1 Frewsburg.

The Class C title game will be played at the Martin Road Complex, in Jamestown, at 3 p.m., on Friday. The Class D title game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at the same site that day.

In baseball action on Wednesday, No. 2 Fredonia will be looking for its third straight Class B-2 title when it takes on the No. 4 Akron Tigers, at Diethrick Park. The game is tentatively scheduled for 7 p.m., and will follow the Class C game between No. 3 Westfield and No. 4 Portville, which will be played at 4:30.

The Wolverines will be looking for their 17th straight win while a win by the Hillbillies would send them into the overall Class B title game, where they could meet either No. 1 Tonawanda or No. 9 Springville. The Warriors and Griffins will play on Wednesday at 5 p.m., at Orchard Park High School. The overall Class B title game will be played Friday at a site and time to be determined.

In Class D, No. 4 Brocton will take on No. 3 Pine Valley at Gowanda High School on Wednesday, at 5 p.m. The Panthers are seeking their fourth straight Sectional title.
