Fredonia Little League Major Division

Cassie Essek and Grace Mroczka each knocked a double and two singles to lead St. George while Hannah Christy and Morgan Cotton each added singles. Jane Fortna and Julia Fortna stood out defensively to help Cierra Smith earn the win in her pitching debut.
Jenna Brooker provided Westfield with its lone hit.
The Fredonia boys basketball program will be hosting its annual Gym Rats Basketball Camp this July at Wheelock Primary School. The camp is for boys and girls ages 4-9 and will be held July 8-12. The camp runs from 9:30 a.m. to noon daily and is geared for young girls and boys as a fun introduction to the game of basketball. All camp drills and instruction will be performed on eight-foot baskets and participants will be using a smaller-sized youth basketball. All campers get a free T-shirt, water bottle, and daily snack. Second Annual Baseball/Softball Underclassmen Showcase
The second annual Baseball/Softball Underclassmen Showcase event will be held on the weekend of August 17-18 at the North Collins Sports Complex. This event is limited to players who were First Team, Second Team and Honorable Mention Divisional or League All-Stars. This year’s format pits the ECIC All-Stars against the Monsignor Martin, Buffalo City and Private School All-Stars and the CCAC All-Stars against the Niagara Frontier League and Niagara Orleans All-Stars.
All players must be high school students with a scheduled graduation date of 2014 or later. Last year’s games included 32 of 39 participants who are planning on playing at the collegiate level next year.

Marauders punch ticket to Vegas
The Jamestown Street Marauders, who play out of Jamestown Street Tavern in Gowanda, were able to shoot their way through a field of 15 teams to win a trip to Las Vegas, Nev. to compete in the American Pool Players Association National Team Championships August 18-24. The team consists of captain Dave Covert, Dave Bodekor, Beth Bodekor, Drew Heary, Dino Alimonti, Dean Alimonti, Greg Sargent and Konrad Zieba. They went undefeated and met the Bison Boyz from Bison Billiards in the finals. It came down to a “pair of three’s” to determine which team would go as two skill level 3s shot it out in the “Hill” match. Beth Bodekor won her match, 2-0, to send the team to Vegas.
The other team that won in the second board, No Brakes, has a local player going to Vegas as well. Gowanda’s Mike Harris will make the trip as a member of No Brakes.

Nick Walter paced Team 604 with four goals while Michael Szalkowski provided a goal and an assist. Justin Price had three assists while Matt Johnson added two in a victorious effort for Team 604. Andrea Colan earned the win in goal.

Michael Szalkowski led Team 604 in an offensive shootout with four goals and one assist as Alex Brown added three goals and an assist of his own. Justin Price contributed a goal and four assists while Matt Johnson tallied two assists. Andrea Colan was the winning netminder.
