A child riding a bicycle was injured after he reportedly cut into traffic on East Second Street Wednesday afternoon.
According to a Dunkirk Police Department report, 70-year-old Amalio Sanchez of South Roberts Road was driving eastbound on East Second Street from Main Street at around 3 p.m. when the accident happened.
Christian Santiago, 11, of South Ermine Street was on a bicycle to his right, on the south side of the roadway, also eastbound. Sanchez told police the youth cut in front of his path and he was unable to avoid striking the child.
Sanchez told police he immediately hit his brakes, but reportedly dragged the child under the front of his vehicle for some 15 yards.
Santiago was treated on the scene by the Dunkirk Fire Department and Alstar. He was flown to Women and Children’s Hospital in Buffalo. His condition is not yet known.
No charges have been filed in the case.
