Silver Creek projects moving along
SILVER CREEK – There are several projects moving forward in the village.
Mayor Nick Piccolo said smoke testing for the Department of Environmental Conservation consent order wastewater project will be completed by next week. He said crews found some separated pipes and will finish testing on Hanover and Lafayette streets.
Piccolo also reported the water line replacement project is moving along quicker than expected.
“They have gotten the same amount of work done in one week that took them three last year,” he said.
Piccolo said despite Visone Construction asking for a four-week extension for phase two of the project, he only granted them a one-week extension and the contractor said he could finish the work by then, putting the deadline at June 21. Visone will begin phase three.
The board authorized advertising for summer help for the department of public works.
The board appointed Molly Smith and Shane Gallivan as summer youth recreation counselors at minimum wage. There are two more counselor positions to fill. Information and applications for the Silver Creek Summer Recreation Program will be available at the Silver Creek Childrens Fair today.
Piccolo said the village received one application for the zoning position. Trustee Warren Kelly said the deadline for applications is June 13 and the board will discuss applicants after that date.
Piccolo said there was no update on making the parks smoke-free because the planning board did not get a chance to discuss the matter. However, Hanover Resident Melissa Shaw attended the meeting with a petition asking for signatures to show the board the community’s support for the measure.
Village Historian Sue Chiappone said she is organizing a historical room with other volunteers and has organized cemetery tours of Glenwood Cemetery in October with Civil War re-enactors.
Hanover Little League Coordinator Caroline Mullen said the league will host two big tournaments this year. Piccolo said the village will be providing the concrete for the Little League field when it does the sidewalk in front of M&T Bank this week.
The village board will meet again June 17 at 7 p.m.
