Twenty years ago — 1993
As a part of the year-long celebration of the 90th anniversary of Grace Lutheran Church in Dunkirk, a service of Holy Communion will be celebrated using the liturgy and hymns from The Common Service Book and Hymnal. This historic book was published in October 1917, the 400th anniversary of the Reformation and one year before the United Synod, the General Synod and the General Council merged to form the United Lutheran Church in America.
Thirty years ago – 1983
After 15 years, Carla Locatelli has returned to Dunkirk for a visit. During the 1967-68 school year, she was the Dunkirk High School AFS foreign exchange student. Her host family was Mr. and Mrs. Pershing Burgstrom and their three daughters. Carla is currently a professor of British literature at her alma mater, the University of Milan, located 30 miles south of her hometown of Como, Italy. She is also the author of seven books.
Forty years ago – 1973
Patrick Bailey, executive director of the Dunkirk Youth Bureau, will be the guest speaker for the NAACP meeting at the Good Hope Baptist Church in Dunkirk.
Fifty years ago – 1963
Karen Ross, 20, of Angola, who finished as second runner-up in the Miss Dunkirk-Fredonia Pageant, was selected from among 10 contestants as “Miss Town of Evans 1963.”
