Gowanda Central students will go to Europe in 2015

GOWANDA – Students in Gowanda will have another opportunity to travel abroad. The Gowanda Spanish Club was approved to go on a field trip to Europe in 2015. Barb Dempsey presented to the board of education about the trip.

Dempsey brought photos and a video from the previous trip where the students spent 10 days abroad. The trip included 25 students and chaperones. One of the favorite attractions on that trip was the salt mines in Salzburg. The trip in 2015 will be to Italy, Greece with a stop in Pompeii.

Students will fundraise through school and all money raised will be given back to them for spending money on the trip. If students sign up before November they will pay $155 per month for a period of 18 months to pay for the trip. Students and chaperones will have a guided tour of all destinations with a tour guide and hotels will be provided in each country.

Lynn Hammond, board member, said she sent one of her children two years ago on the trip and would love to send another on the trip in 2015.

The district accepted the resignation of Edward Von Iderstein, high school science teacher. Jessica Bridge, Erin Dempsey and Stephanie Miller were appointed as substitute teachers and Dempsey was additionally appointed as a substitute school monitor and substitute teaching assistant. Dale Flagler was approved as a substitute school monitor.
