Relay for life: ‘Amazing’ effort in 15th year

It was another milestone for the Relay for Life.

In its 15th annual gathering on Saturday, the Dunkirk-Fredonia event aimed to raise some $127,000 to help support cancer research. With thousands of survivors and family members in attendance, the goal was in sight.

“From what they used to raise, financially, to now is unbelievable,” Cathy Gilvin, co-chair of the event, said Saturday. “Just the five years that I have been involved, we have gone from less than $100,000 to just under $150,000 as a goal. We have had one the largest per capita increases in fundraising in all of Western New York. The dedication and the outreach into the community are amazing, and everyone knows what the relay is.”

Volunteers, love and dedication drive this annual event. Our praise to all who took another step to rid the world and nation of a devastating disease.
