High-speed pursuit leads to rollover accident

NORTH HARMONY – Tuesday afternoon, a trooper from Jamestown was running stationary radar on Interstate 81 eastbound. He reportedly observed a black Chevy Tahoe eastbound at 84 mph. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle exited the interstate at exit 8 and continued on Route 394 eastbound toward Lakewood, failing to stop for the trooper.

The trooper reportedly observed and confirmed by radar that the vehicle was traveling at 97 mph in a 45 mph zone on Route 394.

At the intersection of County Road 43, the fleeing vehicle lost control and traveled into a field on the north side in front of BOCES. The vehicle was heavily damaged and rolled on its side. The operator, Willie Brown, 31, of Erie, Pa., was uninjured in the accident. He was charged with the following vehicle and traffic law offenses: speed in zone 84/65, failure to stop at stop sign, reckless driving (Misdemeanor), speed in zone 97/45, failure to keep right, failure to comply with a lawful order, improper passing, passing on right. Brown was also charged with third-degree fleeing an officer in a vehicle and unlawful possession of marijuana. He will be arraigned in the Town of North Harmony.
