Dunkirk Free Library receives Walmart grant

The Children’s Room at the Dunkirk Free Library was awarded a $1,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation Community Grant Fund, according to Pamela Czarniak, coordinator of children’s services for the library.

“This grant money is being used to purchase popular titles that the children from our area have been requesting, and replacing worn and damaged books,” Czarniak said. “We greatly appreciate this much needed help from Walmart to purchase books that the library would not be able to afford otherwise.”

The Children’s Room at the library will begin their summer reading program registration on Monday, June 17. The program runs from July 1 to Aug. 9. This year’s theme is “Dig into Reading,” which will include stories and activities about construction, gardening, dinosaurs, beaches, and magical creatures.

The library will have a carnival, reading contracts, reading prizes, story times, raffles, arts and crafts and more for children up to age 11. All of the programs are free of charge and are made possible through local businesses, clubs, and individuals who have made donations.
