Twenty years ago – 1993

Katharine, Susannah and Louisa Millonzi, granddaughters of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Millonzi of Central Avenue, Fredonia are pictured in the June 1993 issue of House Beautiful. Photos of the sisters appear with a story featuring Swedish-born Eva Blachere and her husband, Jean Paul, as they prepare for their annual Midsummer’s Eve celebration. The photo shoot was done at the Blacheres’ 1760 farmhouse in the Berskshire Mountains of Massachusetts.

Thirty years ago – 1983

Student of the Week is Tom Dawes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dawes of Fredonia. A senior at Fredonia High School majoring in mathematics, he is a member of the National Honor Society and the varsity baseball team. Tom participated in the Bamberg Exchange program to Germany in 1981. He is interested in petroleum and geological engineering along with the English language and has been accepted into the 3-2 Cooperative Engineering program at Fredonia State University College.

Forty years ago – 1973

Leonard A. Schrantz, 125 Maple Ave., Dunkirk held his seventh annual Flag Day parade for neighborhood children today. Mr. Schrantz provides all the flags for the young marchers.

Fifty years ago – 1963

Roman Catholic cardinals who are in Rome have begun preliminary steps for the selection of a successor for Pope John XXIII, an 81-year-old peasant’s son who died in bed on the afternoon of June 3.
