Fredonia Board to hold special meeting Monday

The Fredonia Village Board will hold a special meeting on Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the Trustees’ Room of the village hall. The board may consider and take action on any motions that may come before it.

Brocton American Legion Auxiliary

to meet Tuesday

The Brocton American Legion Auxiliary will swear in new officers at its meeting Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Brocton Legion, 110 W. Main St., Brocton. Members are urged to attend; please bring a dish to pass.

Hanover Democratic Caucus meets Tuesday

The Hanover Democratic Caucus will meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Hanover Town Hall.

Historical Society car show Sunday in city

The second Park in the Park Classic Car Show will be held Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Dunkirk’s Washington Park. The event will feature classic cars, live music by The Untouchables and chicken dinners by Mike Porpiglia for sale. The Historical Society is asking for a $5 donation from each car owner wishing to display his or her vehicle. The money will fund repairs at the museum. The Dunkirk Historical Museum, at 513 Washington Ave., will be open that day and tours are free to the public. This event will take place rain or shine.

Free Child Safety Seat Check & Kids’ Safe ID program planned

On Saturday at the Gowanda Fire Hall from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., community members can bring their children’s car seats in for a free safety check and participate in the Kids’ Safe ID program. This event is sponsored by the Gowanda Fire Department and Valley Pharmacy & Medical Supplies. Refreshments will be provided. The Fire Hall is located at 230 Aldrich St.

Dayton Volunteer Fire Company chicken

barbecue Sunday

The Dayton Volunteer Fire Company will hold its annual Father’s Day Chicken Barbecue Sunday from 11:30 a.m. until they are sold out. Dinners are $9 for adults and $5.50 for children under 12. Each dinner includes chicken, salt potatoes, macaroni salad, coleslaw, roll with butter, dessert and beverage. Take-out is available. The Dayton Volunteer Fire Company is located at 9512 Route 62.

CCIDA board to meet

The Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency Board of Directors will meet Tuesday at 10 a.m. in CCIDA offices at 200 Harrison St., Jamestown.

Class on preserving strawberries set;

register by Tuesday

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County will hold a class on preserving strawberries on June 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Frank W. Bratt Agricultural Center, 3542 Turner Road, Jamestown. The hands-on class will walk participants through cooked strawberry jam recipes such as full sugar, reduced sugar, artificial sweetener and freezer jam. Participants will also learn about freezing strawberries and other fresh berries. The class is taught by volunteers recently trained at a CCE Master Food Preservers course.

There is a fee of $25 per person, or $40 for two people sharing materials, which can be paid at the door. All participants will go home with strawberry jam.

Coastal Cleanup seeks volunteers for Sept. 21

The 2013 International Coastal Cleanup day is Sept. 21 and marks the 28th year the Great Lakes Beach Sweep has participated in this important, annual event. After the large scale destruction caused by Super storm Sandy, help is needed in cleaning the shores, rivers, beaches, lakes, streams and shorelines of marine debris.

Last year 5,645 volunteers removed 62,633 pounds of debris from 244 miles of New York shoreline. If you would like to see the results of the 2012 New York State Beach Cleanup, visit the Cleanup Site at

Anderson Committee to meet Tuesday

The Brad Anderson Recognition Committee will meet Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Portland Town Hall, 87 W. Main St., Brocton. The public and new members are welcome to attend.
