Anderson-Lee holds American Girl tea party

SILVER CREEK – The Anderson-Lee Library recently hosted an American Girl-themed tea party. Twenty-seven young ladies attended this special program, many of whom brought along a favorite doll. A number of the girls brought their American Girl dolls, which are a unique line of dolls that represent different historical periods in American history, or different racial or cultural backgrounds found in contemporary American society.

The program was led by library staff member Myra McAlevey who brought along some of her own American Doll collectibles for the event. The program began with a reading from the American Girl book, “Happy Birthday, Samantha,” which recounts the humorous story of a birthday tea party. The girls then sat down to their own “tea” party, complete with lemonade and a variety of delicious snacks, many of which were brought in by the children. McAlevey reviewed good table manners before everyone ate. The party ended with each of the girls making their own Victorian fans, which they decorated with cloth, ribbons and glitter. A selection of American Girl books were also on display for the young ladies to borrow from the library. Everyone had a lovely time.

The library will host more of these events in the future, and also has a full calendar of summer reading events for children scheduled throughout the summer months. Call 934-3468 for more information.
