Red Cross

to hold annual meeting June 27

The American Red Cross of Southwestern New York will hold its annual meeting on June 27 at Olean Elks Lodge on 209 W. State St.

A reception will start at 6 p.m. and the dinner and program will start at 6:30 p.m. The dinner cost is $18 per person.

This year’s guest speaker is Tara S. Hughes, LCSW-R; New York State Disaster Mental Health Advisor for the American Red Cross.

The meeting is open to all who have supported the Red Cross throughout the past year by donating time, blood or money.

If you would like to attend, contact your local Red Cross Office in Jamestown at 664-5115, Olean at 372-5800 or in Wellsville at 585-593-1531 by Friday.

The American Red Cross of Southwestern NY is a United Way Agency.

Reed’s staff in city Thursday afternoon

Congressman Tom Reed’s staff will hold office hours in the city of Dunkirk Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the city hall in Dunkirk.

Reed’s staff will be at 342 Central Ave. in Dunkirk to answer any questions and gather feedback and concerns from constituents.

New York’s new 23rd Congressional District includes the counties of Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Chemung, Ontario, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Tioga, Tompkins and Yates.

Sen. Young to host electronics recycling event in Falconer

on Saturday

Senator Catharine Young announced she has teamed up with Sunnking and SKF Aeroengine to offer a free electronics recycling event for area residents. The event will take place June 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at SKF Aeroengine, One Maroco Road, Falconer.

Acceptable items include, but are not limited to, laptops and desktop computers, televisions and monitors, printers, scanners, copiers and small appliances.

County Planning Board to meet on Thursday

The Chautauqua County Planning Board has scheduled a special workshop meeting to provide it an opportunity to work on the annual Capital Project Re-port.

The workshop meeting will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Chautauqua County Industrial Develop-ment Agency Offices, at 200 Harrison St. in Jamestown.

Joe K. golf tourney to be held June 29

The fourth annual Joe K. Memorial Classic Golf Tournament will be held June 29 at the Tri-County Country Club in Forestville, with a shotgun start at 2 p.m. Registration is $80 for golf and dinner. To enter a foursome or for more information, call Adam, 698-2957.

Zoar Valley Road repairs under way

Zoar Valley Road is closed to traffic from Trevett Road to Hammond Hill Road in the Town of Concord.

This closure is expected to be in place through mid-July, weather pending. During that time, Catco Construction will be reconstructing and stabilizing that portion of the roadway.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is funding the majority of the repairs, estimated at $803,000. Crews will be stabilizing the slope, from the bed of the creek, up to roadway, and then reconstructing the road.

A second section of Zoar Valley Road, between Hammond Hill Road and Grote Road, will also be repaired this summer, with work expected to begin the end of July.

Union Concrete was awarded the project to reinforce the slope and reconstruct that portion of the roadway.

Repairs are estimated at $1.4 million with the majority of the work paid for by FEMA.

South Dayton United Methodist Church to hold rummage sale Friday and Saturday

The South Dayton United Methodist Church will hold a rummage sale Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There will also be a bake sale both days.

On Saturday, a bag sale begins at noon.
