Twenty years ago – 1993

About 300 people attended the recent 30th anniversary celebration at Bill’s Gun & Saddle Shop in Sinclairville which also featured the Grand Opening of Bill’s “Old West Saddle Shop.” Special events for the two days included a quick draw exhibition by Butch Cassidy and Black Bart (aka Leroy Parker and Jeff Carnes) plus rope spinning by Mark Swanson and owner Bill Frost. Shooting contests for handgunners, riflemen and black powder shooters were held while barrel racers challenged the timer in the arena.

Thirty years ago – 1983

William Rickard Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. William Rickard Sr., 22 Bradish St., Fredonia has been selected Student of the Week at BOCES Fredonia. A senior at Fredonia High School, he is completing his second year at the Auto Body Repair course in the Vo-Tech Center. William enjoys working on cars and driving his self-made dune buggy. He is currently involved in a work experience program at Farrell’s and plans to continue working there after graduation.

Dunkirk writer Robert Dyment has his concluding article of a five-part series on the 1972 flooding caused by Tropical Storm Agnes printed in the June issue of Popular Mechanics.

Fifty years ago – 1963

Margaret Carey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Carey of Dunkirk, was presented with the first prize for the College Bowl Quiz sponsored by the American Association of University Women.
