Footprints: Putting right foot forward

Stephen and Susan Cobb have enough memories to fill hundreds of backpacks.

Each year, the couple helps lead the Quest, an annual expedition and outdoor education program for middle school students. Over the past 25 years, more than 2,000 students have participated.

On Monday, the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation celebrated the couple’s volunteer efforts and the lessons they have taught numerous children in presenting them with the George B. Weaver Footprints Award during its annual meeting. Foundation President Peter Clark announced the award and presented the Cobbs’ with a framed photo of Canadaway Creek.

Both Susan and Stephen Cobb expressed appreciation and talked about how much the community means to them. “Life has a lot of quirks,” Stephen Cobb said toward the end of the presentation.

But the award for the two was not one of those “quirks.” It is well deserved.
