Campbell Benefit to be held Sunday in Gowanda

A benefit will be held on Sunday for Kelley Campbell and her family to support in her fight against stage III thyroid cancer.

The benefit will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. at the American Legion in Gowanda. It will feature food, raffles, a 50/50 drawing, silent auction and a horseshoe tournament.

Tickets can be purchased at the American Legion, the Gowanda VFW, Gowanda Starcraft or Gowanda Pharmacy.

Fredonia announces summer

concerts series

The village of Fredonia will be kicking off its 2013 summer band concerts series on June 26 with the Cassadaga Area Band.

All concerts will be held in the Barker Common gazebo from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

After the first concert, the schedule will be as follows: July 3 with the Wallace-Farina Band, July 10 with the Dave Yuen Show, July 17 with Kokomo Time, July 24 with the New Horizons Band, July 31 with Dave Golando, Aug. 7 with Gina V. & The Barn Cats, Aug. 14 with the Loose Change Band, Aug. 21 with My Sweet Patootie and Aug. 28 with Sean Patrick McGraw.

Forestville brush pickup first, third Tuesday of month

The residents of the village of Forestville are reminded that brush pickup is the first and third Tuesday of each month.

Brush must be cut in four-foot lengths and piled neatly at the curb one day prior to scheduled pickup.

Leaves must be bagged and placed on the curb. Please do not rake leaves or place brush in the ditches.

Also, do not put pet waste in the leaf bags. Your cooperation is appreciated.

The Portland Bicenten-nial Committee is seeking Town of Portland residents 100 years of age or older.

Megan D’Angelo to appear on Senior Report Saturday

Senior Report with Reed Powers will have Megan D’Angelo as the guest on Saturday’s television program. D’Angelo will discuss hospice care.

The live, call-in program airs from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturdays. Individuals may call 753-5225 during that time with questions, comments or a shout-out. The program is rebroadcast each day at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. for some communities. Reed Powers, host of Senior Report, has been producing the television program since 1995. The series highlights senior citizen club news for 15 minutes with the remainder of the hour-long program devoted to the featured guest.

The guest is subject to change.

Senior Report is shown live on Saturday mornings on Time Warner cable systems covering the following communities: Brocton, Cassadaga, Chautauqua, Fredonia, Mayville, North Harmony, Portland, Ripley, Sherman, Stockton and Westfield on Channel 5. In Dunkirk, Falconer, Forestville, Hanover, Irving, Jamestown, Lakewood and Silver Creek the program is on channel 19.

The show originates at the Access Channel 5 studio in Mayville.

Cassadaga Job Corps Academy to host

informational session Thursday morning

The Cassadaga Job Corps Academy will host an informational session and tour on its campus at 8115 Glasgow Road, Cassadaga, Thursday at 10 a.m. The Cassadaga Job Corps provides training to begin a career in the healthcare and construction industries as well as GED classes to those in need of a diploma. Training in certified nurse aide, carpentry, painting, plumbing and electrical are available as well as the advanced training for licensed practical nurse. The Academy will accept young adults, age16-24, that are committed to a rigorous education and training program that are prepared to launch a career.

Applicants can apply for on-center living or off center living, and all applicants will enroll on a full federal scholarship if accepted.
