Chautauqua County Fair tickets are now on sale

“Pay one price” tickets for the quickly approaching 131st Chautauqua County Fair are now available from The fair runs from July 22-28 on the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds on Central Ave. in Dunkirk. Named by USA Today as one of “10 great places for Blue Ribbon County Fairs” in the country, this year’s edition of the annual event promises to be fun for the whole family.

Online ticket sales are available now through July 21 for $6 per ticket. They are good any day of the fair. Week-long passes are $36. Fair week gate tickets have been lowered to $10 per person Monday through Sunday. Senior Citizens (62 and older) are $5 every day. Children under 2 get in free, but that does not include ride passes or grandstand admission.

Demolition Derby reserved seating tickets can be purchased only at the fairgrounds office and only in combination with a general admission ticket for $11 (lower grandstand) or $8 (upper grandstand). If general admission tickets have been purchased at a retail outlet or online, tickets must be brought to the fair office to exchange them for the Demolition Derby Reserved Seating combination tickets.

Gates will open at 9 a.m. daily. Rides start at 1 p.m., weather permitting and subject to NYS inspection approval.

There are many new additions to this year’s fair, including something new for grandparents and grandchildren. Monday through Thursday of fair week, grandparents will pay no admission with a paid grandchild from 1-4 p.m. “The special price for grandparents is in response to a request from many of our community’s seniors,” said Roy Harrington, board president.

There will also be a new midway for the first time in over 25 years. Bates Brothers Amusements of Winterville, Ohio will be bringing their outstanding selection of rides, amusements and concessions to the fairgrounds. Bates has been building, operating and maintaining rides and amusements in its own facility since 1965. They also provide the midways for both the Cattaraugus and Warren County Fairs. The company travels throughout New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Another new addition to this year’s festivities will be the Miss Chautauqua County Fair Queen pageant. The event will take place in the Arthur R. Maytum Theatre on July 22 and is open to young ladies of all ages. For more information, contact Angel Face Pageants at or call 607-727-3600.

“This year’s fair will mix many of our traditional shows with new and exciting acts,” said Harrington. “Mutts Gone Nuts and our new Family Fun and Rest Zones are just a couple examples of how we are striving to improve our offerings.”
