Erratic driving leads to pot bust in city

A report of an erratic driver coming into the city of Dunkirk on Lake Shore Drive West led to the arrest of a 21-year-old man allegedly in possession of a large amount of drugs and cash.

The subject was identified by the Dunkirk Police Department as Christopher Sleeper, 21, of Portland. He was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a Class A misdemeanor, unlawful possession of marijuana, two counts of failure to keep right and use of a cellular device while operating a motor vehicle.

According to a press release, officers located Sleeper’s vehicle and stopped it on West Second Street after observing several traffic violations.

After noticing a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, officers obtained consent to search the pick-up truck.

During the search, police located more than 100 grams of high-quality marijuana and a large amount of U.S. currency.

Sleeper was taken to the police department for processing and was later released on appearance tickets. He will appear for arraignment at a later date.
