FORESTVILLE – The Forestville Village Board formed two committees at its recent board meeting.

Mayor Linda Aures reported on the bid opening for Phase II of the water project held May 29. She said the lowest bidder withdrew their bid due to miscalculations and the base bids were not affordable.

The board approved the formation of a subcommittee consisting of trustees Kevin Johnson and Ron Lineman and Clerk Jim White which will discuss the village’s options and bring a report to the board by the July 9 meeting.

The board also approved appointments to the Beautification Committee: Chair Doug Voight, Sandy Dix and Marge Workoff. Both Aures and Trustee Mindy Borrello thanked the residents for volunteering for the committee. Workoff said anyone interested is able to join.

Workoff also spoke during the public comment portion of the meeting to warn residents that her cat was recently shot in the village and needed to be put down as a result. Aures said she had heard of another recent incident of a cat being shot.

During board comments Trustee David Bishoff said there were five burglaries in the past week and he is dissatisfied with the police response and investigation. He suggested a neighborhood watch-like program involving a golf cart patrol and a video camera.

The board also approved a contract with Bahgat & Laurito-Bahgat for monthly bookkeeping services and compiled financial statements until Sept. 1 when the responsibilities will be transferred to the village clerk/treasurer for $1,500 a month, water project accounting and reporting until May 31, 2014 or the completion of the project for $500 a month and payroll processing based on a previous schedule.

The board also authorized a contract with Southern Tier West for a village website at a cost of $250 one-time and $150 per year for maintenance.

“I think that is a good price for the service,” Borrello said.

Johnson asked if the village could provide a place where residents who don’t have a computer could get on the website. White said he could set up a kiosk.

The board also approved water bills to be mailed out July 15 and Oct. 1. Johnson said he would like the board to discuss simplifying the rate guidelines.

The next village board meeting will be held June 25 at 7 p.m.
