Fredonia to collect yard waste starting Monday

The village of Fredonia will be picking up limbs and yard waste beginning Monday. Collection will begin at 7 a.m. and continue until every village street has been collected once. Bags and brush are collected separately by different crews. All items for collection must be at the curb no later than 7 a.m. Monday morning. In no case will there be repeat collection of areas completed.

All yard waste must be bagged and all limbs and brush must be tied with twine. Limbs and brush must be cut no longer than four feet in length with bundles being no larger than 18 inches in diameter. Bundles and bags are limited to 65 pounds in weight. There is no collection of loose material.

Village residents may bring bagged yard waste and bundled brush to the designated area at the DPW yard, 176 Eagle St., at any time. The drop-off area will be available until further notice.

The cooperation of residents is greatly appreciated.

The next scheduled pick-up will start on July 22.

Radio drill this weekend

The Pioneer, Radio, Operators, Society (PROS) and the Cattaraugus County amateur radio team will be conducting a 24-hour drill in Allegany State Park on today and Sunday. Ham radio operators will set up portable stations in order to test preparedness.

All local hams are allowed to participate regardless of any club affiliation. “We even invite local officials to stop by to see our station layout,” said Gary Tillinghast, organizer.

The “Field Days” will be held at the “Summit” area of the state park and can be accessed from ASP-1. There will also be a ham radio exam given at 10 a.m. Sunday for all class licenses. Come out and see how hams can do in the wilds of rural Allegany State Park. For more information, contact 945-2055.
