Free fishing is welcome

For those who have considered fishing but have not yet purchased a license, this weekend offers an opportunity.

In a news release sent to the OBSERVER Assemblyman Andy Goodell is reminding residents this weekend is free fishing weekend in New York state. During the weekend, anglers of all ages may fish without a license.

“Chautauqua County’s waters are home to an outstanding variety of fish, from large and small mouth bass, to trout, musky and steelhead,” said Goodell. “Free fishing weekend is a chance for people of all ages to get out and enjoy our natural resources and encourage more people to get involved in the sport of fishing. I hope everyone takes this opportunity to spend some time with family and friends to enjoy the beautiful weather and waterways in our communities.”

There are plenty of options in the county in Lake Erie and Chautauqua Lake – as well as rivers and streams throughout the Southern Tier – when it comes to fishing. Who knows? Maybe you’ll become hooked to the sport.
