Cherry Creek Independence Day celebration set

CHERRY CREEK – The annual Independence Day Celebration schedule of events has been announced by the Cherry Creek Community Association Inc. The festivities will take place this coming weekend, June 28-30, and all the events will take place at the ballpark on Main Street unless otherwise noted.

A villagewide yard sale will take place during the entire weekend, with maps of all the sales available at Mendle’s Crossroads Grocery on the corner of Main and Center streets.

Craft and food vendors, and games will be in the park Friday evening and all day Saturday.

One of the highlights of the weekend is the cruise-in, which will take place Friday. Registration will begin at 5 p.m., and the cruise-in will continue until 8 p.m., with classic oldies music from the Kokomo Time Band. There will be live acoustic music in the pavilion between the hours of 8 and 11 p.m.

Events begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with the pie contest. Those wishing to enter may call Nancy Hall at Rustic Creations for more information.

Taking place all day Saturday in the ballpark will be rides from Titan Entertainment, crafters, food vendors, a beer tent, games and giveaways.

The parade will begin to form its lineup at noon heading up Southside Avenue, with the parade down Main Street beginning at 1 p.m.

The Cherry Creek Fire Department Auxiliary will sponsor their annual chicken barbecue beginning at 2 p.m. until the chicken is sold out.

The popular “Seneca Junction” barbershop group will perform at 2 p.m., with the “Little Mr. & Miss Cherry Creek contest beginning at 3 p.m., all in the grandstand area of the park.

The parade winners will be announced in the grandstand area at 3:30 p.m.

The Live Auction will begin in the grandstand area at 3:45 p.m., with all proceeds going to benefit the Cherry Creek Community Association Inc.

Sally Marsh Karaoke will be from 5-7 p.m. in the pavilion. And between the hours of 7 and 10 p.m. Uncle Ben’s Remedy will provide live music in the pavilion.

The raffle drawings will take place at 8:30 p.m. and, to close out the day, the annual Fantastic Fireworks display will begin at 10 p.m.

The weekend’s festivities close on Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. with the Community Worship Service which includes the families from the Cherry Creek churches.
