Gowanda – Elizabeth Allen, a lifelong resident of Gowanda, NY, passed away Tuesday (June 25, 2013) at the Gowanda Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after a long illness.
Born May 24, 1928 in Gowanda she was the daughter of John and Helen Witt Coudrey.
Mrs. Allen was a graduate of Gowanda High School and was first employed at the Gowanda State Hospital. She then drove a school bus for the Gowanda Bus Service for several years. She continued her employment with New York State as a therapy aide for the J.N. Adam Development Center until her retirement.
She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Gowanda and was a member of the Gowanda Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for over sixty years. She also was a member of the Gowanda American Legion Auxiliary, the VFW Auxiliary, the Women of the Moose and the Slovenian Club of Gowanda.
Surviving are one son, John (Karen) Coudrey of Gowanda; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one brother, Bob (Nancy) Coudrey of Gowanda; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Kenneth Coudrey; two grandsons, Kenneth Coudrey, Jr. and Jacob Coudrey; two brothers, Albert “Jack” Coudrey and John Albert Coudrey, Jr.; and two sisters, June Troutman and Pearl Coudrey.
The family will gather for a memorial visitation at the Mentley Funeral Home, Inc. 105 E. Main St. Gowanda on Saturday (June 29, 2013) from 6-7p.m. at which time a memorial service will be held. Rev. Sue Hodges, pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Gowanda.
