Silver Creek to share transportation supervisor

SILVER CREEK – The Silver Creek Central School District voted to approve sharing a transportation supervisor position for the first time with Forestville Central District. The Silver Creek Board of Education unanimously approved the agreement to share the position held by Kari Turner at its regular meeting Wednesday.

“The agreement is to share a transportation supervisor between the two districts, the first year at 75 percent (Silver Creek) 25 percent (Forestville),” Superintendent Daniel Ljiljanich said. “The plan moving forward with them would be a 60 (percent) 40 percent sharing of the transportation supervisor.”

The one-year contract is subject to approval by the Forestville Board of Education at the July 11 meeting. Following the one-year agreement, Ljiljanich said the district will move to an agreement of 60 percent Silver Creek and 40 percent Forestville if both districts agree to move forward. Both districts share other services currently but this will be the first time for the transportation supervisor.

All of Turner’s responsibilities will be shared equally between the two districts. According to Ljiljanich, part of Turner’s duties as transportation supervisor is being in contact with the town of Hanover, department of public works, department of transportation and various police agencies to ensure the weather is suitable for travel in the winter. Since Turner already has contact with the town of Hanover, working with Forestville will not be a problem.

“If we didn’t think she could handle it, we would never (share services),” Ljiljanich said.

The district also awarded the bid to Varsity Spirit Fashion for cheerleading uniforms in the amount of $6,547, approved the school district safety plan and authorized the contract for Business Administrator Cynthia Mackowiak.
