Best in the state
The New York State Sports Writers Association released its Softball All-State teams recently, with several local players named amongst the State’s best.
Forestville senior standout pitcher Ryanne Dugan capped her high school career by being named as one of two pitchers on the Class D First Team while in Class B, Fredonia’s Alicia Deering, a junior, was named to the Fourth Team as an outfielder. In Class C, Cassadaga Valley senior Kristi Zink was named the Third Team’s shortstop.
Joining Dugan in Class D were North Collins’ senior Jessica Lawton (Second Team, pitcher), Ripley sophomore Ryleigh Hawkins (Third Team, shortstop), Forestville senior Cherish Pope (Third Team, catcher) and Brocton junior Jessica Putcher (Fourth Team, pitcher).
Other CCAA players earning All-State honors were Frewsburg seniors Sam Mott (First Team, pitcher), Shawna Raymond (Second Team, shortstop) and Mckenzie Cass (Fifth Team, centerfield), Cattaraugus-Little Valley junior hurler Sara Crandall and Maple Grove senior catcher Lauren Nickerson were named to the Third and Fourth teams, respectively.
Frewsburg’s Jon Blanchard was named the Class C Coach of the Year after leading the Bears to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association title in early June.
