CBRDC payment on council agenda
The Dunkirk Common Council will hold its first meeting of the summer Tuesday, with four pre-filed resolutions on the agenda, including providing a payment to the Chadwick Bay Regional Development Corporation
Council will also receive official notification that the report by the independent auditors on the city’s 2012 fiscal year has been released. That report will be available for review in the city clerk’s office, the Dunkirk Free Library, and online at dunkirktoday.com beginning Wednesday.
The city will pay its local share to the CBRDC if Resolution 42-2013 is approved. Sponsored by councilmen Michael Michalski and William J. Rivera, the resolution would authorize and direct Mayor Anthony J. Dolce to release the city’s 2013 local share of $6,281.50. The share is a 50 cents per capita share.
Fredonia resident Steven A. Purol will receive another one-year contract as the city’s animal control officer under Resolution 40-2013, which was sponsored by the entire council. Purol would receive $2,000 per month for a period to run from July 1 to June 30, 2014. In addition, Purol could receive up to $800 for fuel reimbursement over the year.
Under 41-2013, sponsored by Councilwoman Stacy Szukala, Fredonia resident Wendy Spinuzza would remain as a contractor with the city’s Housing, Building and Zoning Enforcement Department. Spinuzza would be paid $17.50 per hour for up to 35 hours per week. The city is looking to move the funding source for this contracted position from Community Development Block Grant funding to the General Fund.
The city would transfer $20,00 from a vehicle fuel account to tree trimming – repair to equipment if 43-2013, sponsored by Michalski, Rivera and Councilman Adelino Gonzalez, is approved. The money is needed to repair the city’s tree-trimming bucket truck.
There were four requests and four loudspeaker applications on the agenda as well.
The Resource Center and Filling the Gap Inc. are seeking permission to sell the OBSERVER at various city street corners as part of the 17th Annual Laurel Run.
“Money raised by the run and its associated activities are used to support disability awareness and prevention efforts in Chautauqua County,” stated Steve Waterson, community relations director for Filling The Gap, “money raised through Laurel Run also is used to provide employment and work training opportunities for adults with disabilities.”
City resident Ana Pacheco is seeking permission to erect a bounce house at a pavilion at Point Gratiot on July 4 for a family get together. City resident Naomi Gonzalez is seeking permission to erect a 20 x 30-foot tent at Wright Park on July 27 for a family reunion.
Hannah Wentz, event coordinator for the Pillar of Fire fellowship, is seeking permission to hold a Christian hip-hop and R & B concert in Washington Park on Aug. 17 from 3 to 6 p.m. A loudspeaker application for the event was also filed.
Robert Patterson, event coordinator for the first ALS Dunkirk Walk scheduled for July 20, has filed a loudspeaker application from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the event. The large pavilion at Point Gratiot will be the site of the event ceremonies.
Loudspeaker applications were filed for two July 4 events.
One would allow Tequeria Mexicana, 45 Lake Shore Drive E., to hold its annual July 4 event while the other would grant city resident George Rivera to hold a to have a loudspeaker permit for a family picnic. Neighbors on either side of Rivera’s residence signed off on the request.
Council is scheduled to meet at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall. A 5:15 p.m. public hearing on the city’s cable television contract with Time Warner will precede the council meeting.
