Sheridan Day funds to help a family in need
SHERIDAN – Help raise funds for a local family that lost their home in a fire.
Sheridan United Methodist Church will again be the site of the Sheridan Day celebration and fundraiser. Chiavetta’s chicken barbecue, Chinese auction, bake sale and vendors will be part of the event to be held Saturday, July 13 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the church, located at 2679 Route 20 in Sheridan. Chiavetta’s chicken barbecue will be available from noon to 4 p.m. (or until sold out).
A special raffle will be held for two tickets to the Toby Keith concert on July 21 at Darien Lake. The tickets will be $5 a chance.
The annual fundraiser held by the Sheridan United Methodist Church helps a designated cause. The mission is to reach out to people in need or to support mission programs that serve to better the lives of individuals around the world. This year the proceeds will go to a church family who lost their home and all their belongings in a fire. On May 1, a fire completely destroyed the Kevin Franklin home on King Road in the town of Sheridan. There were six individuals living in the home at the time and despite the valiant effort of the Sheridan Fire Department, the home was a total loss.
The Sheridan United Methodist Church is the first Methodist society in Chautauqua County. Established in 1809 the church and congregation have been a vital part of the community. Sunday services are held at 10:30 a.m. Tours of the church will be available.
Others organizations in Sheridan will also hold fundraisers on Sheridan Day. The Sheridan Memorial Field Association will host a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., directly across the street from the church. Proceeds go to maintaining the Memorial Field, located on Center Road. The Memorial Field Association also sponsors regular Red Cross blood drives in Sheridan.
The Sheridan Fire Hall on Route 20 will be the site of the Sheridan Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary giant yard sale, bake sale and Chinese auction from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (or until sold out). There will be hot dogs for sale.
All are invited to come out on July 13 to meet friends and neighbors, and support the work of these organizations. For more information, call the Sheridan United Methodist Church at 672-2048.
