Gov. Cuomo coming this morning to Jamestown

Gov. Andrew Cuomo will make a stop in Jamestown today.

The Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce announced early Tuesday afternoon that Cuomo would be at Jamestown Community College today. According to the chamber, Cuomo will be discussing local and New York state economic development.

Last month, Lt. Gov. Bob Duffy was at Jamestown Community College to discuss Cuomo’s Start-Up New York Initiative, formerly known as the Tax-Free New York economic development initiative. Under the initiative, businesses geared toward the academic mission of a SUNY campus would be free of sales, property and corporate taxes for 10 years if they move to or open on a SUNY campus.

Other 2013 initiatives supported by Cuomo include education initiatives; jobs for New Yorkers; the NY SAFE Act; the Sandy Recovery and Rebuild Initiative; a combatting corruption initiative; a minimum wage initiative; distressed cities initiative; and casino gaming initiative.

Cuomo, a Democrat, was elected as the 56th governor of New York state in November 2010. Prior to becoming governor, Cuomo spent four years as New York’s attorney general.

Cuomo will be speaking at 11:45 a.m. in the JCC Student Center at the Hamilton Collegiate Center. The event is closed to the public.
