Fredonia History Days nearing

The 2013 Fredonia History Days are coming on July 19 and 20 in Barker Common. One of the main attractions this year are the Historical Carriage Tours narrated by Pomfret Town Historian Todd Langworthy. The tour is close to an hour long, featuring a beautiful evening horse-drawn carriage ride around the Village of Fredonia with historian Todd Langworthy as your guide. Learn about Fredonia’s past and enjoy the ride as you visit many historic sites found throughout the village. Tickets are $10 each and available

Saturdays at the Festivals Fredonia booth at the Fredonia Farmers Market from 8 a.m. to1 p.m. Tour times for both Friday and Saturday are 7, 8, 9 and 10 p.m. with departure from the Information Booth. Tickets often sell out, so make sure to stop by the Farmers Market to pick up yours today for your tour of choice. Tickets will also be available for reservation online soon by visiting the Festivals Fredonia website at www.festivalsfredonia.com and clicking on “Fredonia History Days.”

Festival of Grapes Pageant looking for participants

The Festival of Grapes Pageant is accepting participants for this year’s Festival of Grapes Pageant to be held Sept. 14 at 6:15 p.m. in the Silver Creek high school auditorium. There are three age categories: ages 7-9, 11-13 and 14-18.

All contestants must be enrolled in a school in the grape belt region, which includes all of Chautauqua County and as far as Eden in southern Erie County, to qualify.

There is a mandatory orientation meeting July 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the Silver Creek high school auditorium where contestants and their parents will meet Pageant Director Diana Carpus and receive important information on this year’s event and its requirements.

All potential contestants and parents must attend this meeting to participate, no exceptions.

Letters of application are available at all local school district main offices in the grape belt region. For more information contact Carpus at 934-4177.

Lighthouse Ghost Tour July 20

The Dunkirk Historical Lighthouse is having its next Ghost Tour on July 20 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 and are available at the website: www.dunkirklighthouse.com, or by calling 366-5050.

Sheriff’s Office to host a safety seat check

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office in partner with New York State Police will host a child passenger safety seat check.

This check will be held at the entrance to Midway State Park on July 18 from noon to 3 p.m. and is sponsored by the park. This is an opportunity to ensure that the proper child seats are being used and installed properly.

CCIDA Board of Directors will meet

The County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency Board of Directors will meet Tuesday at 10 a.m. at CCIDA, 200 Harrison St., Jamestown. The meeting will take place in the board room.

Arkwright tire amnesty continues

The Town of Arkwright is running a tire amnesty program from now until Aug. 1 through their highway department.

The purpose of the program is to allow residents the opportunity to rid themselves of used tires – up to 10 tires per residents.

Fredonia to hold public hearing on proposed local laws

The Fredonia Village Board will hold a public hearing on July 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Trustees Room of the village hall.

The hearing will be in regards to two proposed local laws. One is regarding the prohibition of the consumption of alcoholic beverages or drugs by anyone under 21 years of age on private property.

The other proposed law is regarding the prohibition of trailers or trailer trucks parking on village streets.
