Youth Softball

NYS Section 1 9-10-Year-Old Tournament

Fredonia 24, Grand Island 6 – Megan Kyte and Kazlin Beers combined to strike out seven and walk eight as Fredonia advanced to the championship game with a convincing win over Grand Island Sunday in Pittsford.

Kyte led the way at the plate too as she had three hits. Emily Smith chipped in two hits in the win while Kelly Gullo, Cierra Smith, Caelin Holt and Julia Fortna all hit safely.

Fredonia plays today at 6 p.m. against Fairport, with the winner advancing to the state tournament in Fishkill.

Youth Baseball

Section 1 11-12-Year-Old Little League Tournament

Fredonia 13, Tonawanda 0 – Derrick Walters allowed two hits while striking out eight as Fredonia advanced at the Section 1 tournament.

Nico Pucci and Trey Swartz both hit home runs for Fredonia, which finished with 15 hits on the day. Jamison Horch singled three times while Swartz (double), Pucci, Jared Kowalski (double) and Alec Schrader all finished with two hits in the win.

District 38 11-12-Year-Old Non-Sanctioned Tournament

Hanover 8, Chautauqua Lake 5 – Hanover improved to 3-0 in tournament play with its win over Chautauqua Lake Friday night at Barresi Field, in Silver Creek.

Hayden Perryman picked up the win on the mound while Jack Brennan, Conner Daniels, Brandon Gloss, Jarrett White and Perryman all doubled.

Blane Thomas had two hits to lead Chautauqua Lake while Derrick Martin and Trey Sauerland collected singles.

Westfield 8, Chautauqua Lake 6 – Noah Smith and Jordan Carlson had two hits each in Westfield’s win over Chautauqua Lake while Garret Haskins doubled. Carlson picked up the win in relief.

Derrick Martin, Blane Thomas and Hunter Dearing all singled for Chautauqua Lake.

Brocton 3, Hanover 2 – Hunter Rizzo picked up the win on the mound as Matt Landon collected two hits for the winners. Bubba Brown and Rizzo also doubled for Brocton in the win.

Alex Bogosian led Hanover with a pair of hits while Jon Pulver doubled.

Dunkirk 3, Fredonia 2 – Felix Garcia and Darnell Butts had Dunkirk’s only hits, but they were enough to help it defeat Fredonia. Pat Muldowney picked up the win on the mound.

Jake Davis doubled for Fredonia while Karim Levins, Brandon Wallace and Jim Rush all singled in the loss.

Dunkirk 12, Westfield 1 – Zack Romanik scattered four hits on the mound to lead Dunkirk over Westfield. Rich Stressing blasted a three-run homer to deep left center and Darnell Butts was a perfect 4 for 4 with three singles and a double. Also for Dunkirk, Felix Garcia banged out a double and a single as it picked up its first win in the round-robin tournament.

Brock Shuster collected a double and single while Ryan Jafarjian and Noah Smith had the other hits for Westfield in the loss.

Country Club

Wednesday Travel League – Gary Richardson shot the low round of 79 at Shorewood Country Club to win the U.S. Open, the second Major event of the season.

It was Richardson’s first career major victory and included the low front nine score of 39. His low back nine score of 40 was matched by Al Etzel. Ed Tofil was the runner-up with 80.

Tim Walawender was the B Flight champion while Bob Stone won a tiebreaker over Doug Grace to win the C Flight. In the D Flight, Bruce Chrabasz won a tiebreaker over Gary Hazelton and Jim Ellman Sr. Winner of the Commissioner’s Award was Dan Kaszuba.

Top point winners were Woloszyn (108), Tofil (82), Richardson (76), Marsowicz (65), Franklin (65) and Weaver (54). Season points leaders: Franklin (254), Richardson (216), Michalski (198), Dave Criscione (196) and Tofil (192).

This week, the league will play Overlake in Girard, Pa. First tee-time is at 9:30 a.m. It is imperative that golfers are at the course at 9 a.m. sharp for the foursome draw, as per course rules. Golfers also need to be signed up with Butch Mackowiak by Monday. Golfers can reach him at 679-4027.

Merigold Tournament – Overall winners were Sue Grace, Mary Kelly, Dee Dee Dubois and Sue Helfrey as the quartet finished with an 83. Flight One was won by Katy Popp, Natalie Komosinski, Dawn Woleben and Kitty Kubera with an 80 while Flight Two was won by Sue Genovese, Mary Haight, Cheryl Mannella and Sarah Burrough, who carded an 83.

Mixed Couples Tournament – Amy Redman and Terry Redman won the nine-hole, two-person scramble event with a low score of 34.

Men’s Merchant League – Low gross scores: Scott Jagoda 34 and Nolan Swanson 36.

Other low gross scores: Mike Reed 39, Carl Vandevelde 39, Lyndon Smith 40, Dave Willebrandt 40, Gary Arnold 41 and Dick Frost 42.

Low net: Juan Tores 31, Randy Butler 31, Brady Deuink 32, Jeff Jaynes 34, Eric Edwards 34 and Scott Leamer 34.
