The 17th Annual Laurel Run will be held Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Village of Silver Creek. Commuters should be prepared for limited traffic in the village during the event.
to hold free concert Saturday afternoon
The Literacy Volunteers of Chautauqua County bookstore located at 21 East Second St., Dunkirk, will welcome the Castleman Quartet Program for a free performance on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. The public is invited to attend the free entertainment.
Chicken and Rib BBQ fundraiser Friday
Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. there will be a Chicken and Rib BBQ fundraiser for (non-profit) Telecommunication Museum of Fredonia’s new location, 44 Temple St. (formerly Tower Gifts).
Presale tickets are strongly advised and are available from the DFT Business Office at 38 Temple St. until Wednesday. Enjoy a different BBQ with both chicken and ribs/potato and green salad/roll/butter. Baked goods/water/pop for a few more cents are available and a 50/50 raffle. Take a sneak peak at the almost ready to open museum for your community’s history from the eyes of the telecommunications point of view.
Hanover water bills due this week
Town of Hanover water bills are payable at the Town Clerk’s Office in the Hanover Town Hall, 68 Hanover St., Silver Creek. The last day to make payment penalty-free is July 19. After that date, a 10 percent penalty will be added.
Festival of Grapes
pentathlon searching for contestants
The Festival of Grapes pentathlon will be held Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. in the Silver Creek School parking lot. The rain date for the pentathlon is Sept. 17.
Boys who are ages 7-8 before the event takes place and reside in the grape belt region, which encompasses all of Chautauqua County and as far as Eden in southern Erie County, may participate in the event.
The boys have fun testing their skills in sports-related activities as part of the competition and are judged based on their abilities, skills and sportsmanship.
The winning prince and runners up will be announced at the Festival of Grapes opening ceremony Sept. 19 and will be able to stomp grapes and participate in the Sunday Parade.
