Joseph T. Piazza, 83, of Dunkirk died Sunday even-ing (July 14, 2013) at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk.

He was born Aug. 1, 1929 in Dunkirk, the son of the late Angelo and Augusta (Utegg) Piazza.

A lifelong Dunkirk resident, Mr. Piazza served in the U.S. Army During the Korean War.

He had been employed for 28 years at Piazza & Sons Furniture in Dunkirk and later became the owner and operator of Joseph Furniture in Dunkirk and Brocton. He also was a courtesy driver for Robert Basil Chevrolet in Fredonia.

Joseph was a member of Holy Trinity Church and the John T. Murray VFW Post 1017.

He enjoyed bowling, roller skating, gardening and especially liked biking with his grandchildren around Van Buren.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia (Pleszewski) Piazza, whom he married Feb. 23, 1957; one son, Joseph A. Piazza of Dunkirk; two daughters, Jodi (Tim) Cunningham and Janelle Piazza, both of Dunkirk; five grandchildren: Alissa, Lauren, Payton, Joseph, and Bryan; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Harry and Robert Piazza; and one sister, Mary MacKenzie.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Thursday morning at 11 o’clock in Holy Trinity Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home.
