Fredonia Central School announces dates for kindergarten and pre-k registration

The Fredonia Central School District announces that registration for pre-kindergarten children who will turn 4 years old on or before Dec. 1, 2013, is currently in progress. Registration for kindergarten children who will turn 5 years old on or before Dec. 1, 2013, is also currently in progress.

Kindergarten and pre-kindergarten registration are critical pieces of the school enrollment process. Parents are asked to call or stop by the Elementary School office to enroll their children and request a registration packet.

Parents will need to provide the school with several important items when registering their child: proof of residency such as a utility bill or rent receipt, a birth certificate or other legal evidence of their child’s age, their child’s immunization record, and the completed pre-kindergarten or kindergarten packet forms and materials.

The Dunkirk City Schools pre-kindergarten classrooms will also be held at Wheelock Primary School next year. Dunkirk parents should contact Dunkirk City Schools regarding pre-kindergarten registration.

Contact the Fredonia Elementary Office by July 26 at 679-1581, ext. 2740, to request a registration packet for either pre-k or kindergarten.

The Campus and Community Children’s Center has a limited number of openings for their UPK Extension program, which will also be housed at the Wheelock building on Chestnut Street in Fredonia. This program runs school days from 11:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The cost for the program is $125 per week and includes lunchtime (provided from home), outdoor/indoor gross motor play, developmentally appropriate activities and rest time.

Families must commit to full weeks for this program, or they can share enrollment with another family choosing a Monday, Wednesday, Friday slot or a Tuesday, Thursday slot. They also run a holiday program when the public schools are closed, with the exception of winter break when all CCCC programs are closed. The cost for the holiday program is based on income.

To help offset the cost of the programs, child care subsidies may be available to those who qualify. Contact the local Department of Social Services for further information regarding child care subsidies.
