Tractor-trailer driver with medical problem dies in accident
A tractor-trailer driver died following an accident near the intersection of Routes 20 and 60 in Fredonia.
According to New York State Police at Fredonia, Leland Johnson, 66, of Fredonia was operating a tractor-trailer traveling east on Route 20 near the intersection at 2 p.m. He lost consciousness due to an apparent medical condition, crossed into the westbound lane and struck a vehicle operated by Alicea Maysonet, 35, of Fredonia.
A passenger in Johnson’s truck, Janice Johnson, attempted to gain control of the vehicle by steering the truck off the south shoulder of Route 20, and striking three parked vehicles at a used car lot. The truck continued through an open field, coming to rest after hitting a tree.
Johnson was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Maysonet and Janice Johnson were uninjured.
Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, Fredonia Fire Department and Alstar Ambulance also responded to the scene.
