Silver Creek native completes general surgery residency training

John L. Falcone, M.D, M.S. from Silver Creek, recently graduated from his general surgery residency training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pa. He completed his internship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and was an administrative chief resident.

Surgical education was Dr. Falcone’s main interest. He earned a master of science in medical education through the University of Pittsburgh during his residency program. He won numerous local teaching awards from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Falcone was also inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Nationally, he was given the Association for Surgical Education Outstanding Resident Teacher Award and the American College of Surgeons Resident Award for Exemplary Teaching.

Dr. Falcone has numerous clinical and education research interests, especially in standardized test performance and simulation. He has 35 peer-reviewed publications published or in press in various surgical journals, and numerous presented abstracts and book chapters. He received the Doris B. Maxwell Research Award for his productivity and creative research efforts during residency training.

He will be a general surgeon at the Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in Owensboro, Ky. Dr. Falcone will be moving with his wife Trasey D. Falcone, D.O., of Lewisburg, Ky., and their children Gianna May and Joseph Donald.

Dr. Falcone was the valedictorian of the Silver Creek High School Class of 1998 and he graduated Summa Cum Laude from Cornell University with a B.S. in Biology and Distinction in Research in 2002. He received his M.D. at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 2006. He is the son of Jane and Joseph Falcone of 11422 Walnut Road in Silver Creek. He is the grandson of the Rev. Lawrence Schuster of Dunkirk, the late John Falcone and of Rose Falcone of Silver Creek, and the late Pat Reynolds.
