Silver Creek school board gets construction update
SILVER CREEK – The summer has been busy at Silver Creek Central School.
At a recent board of education meeting, Superintendent Daniel Ljiljanich said the school’s capital project is well under way.
He said projects are going on inside and outside the building and aside from the window replacement, everything is on schedule. He said this delay is because the windows did not come in when expected, so the work schedule was changed.
One of the most visible projects is the creation of a parking lot at the corner of Dickinson Street and Bennett State Road. Ljiljanich explained this will increase parking by 50 spaces and include drainage to help with runoff problems.
Ljiljanich reported the administrative team is working on academic intervention services and hiring new personnel to fill vacancies.
He also said the school has 90 students enrolled in the elementary summer school program, an increase from last year. The middle and high school summer school programs were hosted at Dunkirk Schools for the second year.
Ljiljanich was also able to attend a Model Schools Conference in Washington D.C. and will report on it at a future workshop.
The board of education will not meet for a second meeting in July. The next meeting will be held Aug. 14.
